Q: How is a chair massage performed?
Chair Massage is performed while a person is sitting upright in a chair. The focus is on the neck, shoulder, upper or lower back, arms and or hands. The therapist will briefly interview you and ask you whether you have any pain or tension to address (eg. neck, shoulder, lower back, arms etc.) and apply a light, medium or a deep massage using different techniques. It’s most common use is to provide relaxation, reduce stress and promote health.

Chair massage was popularized by David Palmer in 1982. He was a massage teacher and school owner. He found chair massage to be an easy and economical way to introduce massage for potential clients. In 1986, he developed the first specialized chair for massage and trained massage practioners at massage school throughout the U.S.

A massage session can take place in a 5’x5” space. It may be held in a conference room, break room or in a comfortable and quiet environment .

Massage therapy relaxes tense muscles and calms the nervous system, causing your body's rhythm to slow down. When this happens your blood pressure lowers. You can take your time as you rise from the chair when you are ready and you’ll feel wonderful.

Massage is not recommended if you have rashes, lesions or any other serious health conditions.
